You did not accidentally order this file.

This custom-made glass nail file is currently being included at no additional cost with qualifying orders as part of a customer product test.

It is not yet available to purchase.

I am considering adding a glass file to the permanent collection, but before I do, I want to know whether people genuinely enjoy using it, whether the design choices are useful and how well it holds up in real life.

Custom made for this test

I asked for this file to be:

  • Rounded at both ends

  • Etched on both sides

  • Made with two slightly different filing surfaces

One side is fine. The other is slightly coarser.

The difference is subtle, but noticeable. Personally, I prefer the slightly coarser side. It feels more comfortable and effective to me, while the finer side creates a sound and filing sensation that I find a little strange.

That is entirely personal preference, though.

I am curious whether other people notice the difference, which side they prefer and whether having two filing surfaces makes the file more useful.

Why am I testing it?

Glass files are often described as being gentler, smoother or better for natural nails. Some claims even suggest that they “seal” the free edge.

I am not interested in repeating claims simply because they sound appealing.

My diamond files already work extremely well and this glass file is not intended to replace them. I want to find out whether it offers a different and genuinely useful experience that earns it a place alongside them.

What about durability?

Some glass-file manufacturers use a chemical strengthening process intended to improve resistance to damage and breakage.

The maker of this particular file does not use that additional process. They say their files perform and last very well without it, and I wanted to test that in normal everyday use rather than assuming that one manufacturing method is automatically necessary.

That is part of the research too.

Please let me know if the file develops any chips, cracks or other damage during normal use.

As with any glass object, protect it from hard drops and stop using it if it becomes damaged.

What I would like you to notice

Please use both sides and consider:

  • Can you feel a difference between the two filing surfaces?

  • Which side do you prefer?

  • Does the file feel comfortable and controlled?

  • Does either side create an unpleasant sound or sensation?

  • Do you continue reaching for it after the initial novelty wears off?

  • If you own my diamond file, do the two files serve different purposes?

  • Does the glass file hold up well over time?

  • Would you buy one for approximately €7 or $8?

Please leave an honest review

You received this file at no additional cost as part of a qualifying order. A positive review is neither required nor expected.

Glowing, critical or somewhere in the complicated middle, I want the honest version.

Your feedback will help me decide whether this file:

  • Becomes a permanent product

  • Needs to be improved

  • Should be replaced with a chemically strengthened version

  • Or does not need to be sold at all

Before a product becomes part of the permanent collection, I want it to earn its place.
